The Strengths and Weakness of Great Britain and the Colonists

Great Britain and the colonists have strengths and weakness over each other. Britain has a bigger population and the colonists has outstanding leadership.
Great Britain had a strong naval and land force. The naval force was consider to be the best at that time. Also their professional army was very strong and consisted of 50,000 British, 30,000 Hessians and 30,000 American Loyalists. Also luckly for the British the colonies were badly organized for this war. Some weakness of the British was that the armies were 3000 miles from home. Orders took months to reach the front. Their was brutal treament of soliders. One solider was lashed 800 times for striking an officer. Their was also no urban nerve center to conquer.

The colonists also have strong points. They were fighting defensively during the war. They also had a moral advantage because they were fighting for a positive goal which was freedom. They had a great diplomatic leader who was Ben Franklin and the European Imports leaders were Lafayette and Kosciuzko. Also luckly for the colonist, Great Brtain had second-rate generals and the British needed a clear victory to win back control because a draw would be a victory for the colonists. But the colonists did have weak points. Their was many American soliders but they were unreliable. The Continental Congress debated, but took little action and exercised less leadership. They also did not have a written constitution until 1781.
